Week 36 in Pictures

I'm a little late posting my weekly photos.  I could tell you a hundred thousand reasons why, but I'm tired and really want to go to bed now, so I'll just post them.  :)

I have no idea what these berries are, or if they are even berries, but I was intrigued by them.

Our tradition of going to the Labor Day parade then hanging out at my in-laws didn't happen this year.  The parade was moved to Sunday (no idea why), so we just stayed close to home, except for a ride on the bike trail where we came across this cat.  Turns out she was a mama feeding her kittens and wasn't too happy about me bothering her.  So I just snapped a few photos (with my telephoto lens) and left her alone.

I won this basket at our Bible study kickoff party this morning!

Nick and I walked down the road to gather milkweed leaves for our hungry Monarch caterpillars and happened upon this handsome fella.  He was newly emerged from his chrysalis so we brought him home to hang out with us for a while.  Alex was having fun with him crawling all over him.

This beautiful lady has a sad story.  She emerged while I was gone for the day.  I set her free as soon as I got home and she flew over to rest on my snowball bush where I took a few photos of her.  When the boys got home from school, she tried to fly across the road and got caught up in the draft from the cars going by and got hit by a car right in front of us.  I wanted to cry!

These Monarchs all have happier endings!  We had a female and two males emerge today.  The female joined us in the morning while I was still home.  Thankfully I still had one little bloom on my butterfly bush to put her on.  The males came later so I took the containers they were in to my friend, Laura's.  She chuckled when I walked in the door and announced, "We're expecting!"  :)  I placed them both on her Morning Glories.

Nick was so excited to catch this frog.  Even if only for a moment.

Week 51 Summary

Week-51-Collage
Only one more week of 2011 Project 365 to go!  Sarah and Tracey are both changing things up for 2012, so I might keep going and do a third year.  It may not include a photo each and every day, but I do intend to keep taking photos and gaining knowledge.  So why not post some once a week, right?  Next week will be the last week for this type of collage post though.

Anyway, this is what last week looked like in pictures ...
18 - "Half" prompt from Scavenger Hunt Sunday
21 - Keira asked me to make her a bow for her hair

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

While I should be putting out gifts tonight, I'm posting my photos from the past couple days.  :)

{December 23}

I've seen this a few times around the blogosphere and decided to try it myself.  It is harder than I thought - trying to keep the candy canes together while photographing them.  :)

{December 24}
December 24
The kids after Christmas Eve service.  If only I could have gotten a photo of them with genuine smiles.  {sigh}  They were more than ready to go home at this point.  :)  I love the way our church decorates for Christmas.  It is always so beautiful.

Week 44 Summary

Week-44-Collage
Started out the week with a miserable cold ... finished off the week busy, busy again!  And I got my D3100 back from repair!  So excited to have it back.  Now I just need to learn how to use it all over again.  :)

Anyway, here's my week in pictures ...
31 - This gerber daisy is growing in a place that I did not plant it ... and it is still hanging on despite a few frosty/snowy mornings.  Tracey picked this as one of her Top 5 this week.  Thanks, Tracey!

2 - If you seek out beauty, you will find it.
3 - My new camera is back!  Playing around with out of focus shots.  Inspired by the incredible Katie Lloyd.
4 - My beautiful Keira.  Took this for the Shades of Autumn purple photo challenge.

Some other things that happened this week ... as I said above, my D3100 finally came back from the repair shop - Yay! ... a friend/neighbor lost her battle with cancer, so we had funeral home visitations and the funeral - It is always hard to lose someone, but it is a great comfort to know that she is no longer in pain and is rejoicing with Jesus right now ... Alex had his stitches removed and I'm kicking myself for not getting any photos of them ... my husband finally found a car to buy after months and months of car shopping - hoping to go pick it up next week ... Keira is on a field trip to the circus today ... and Nick has a bowling birthday party to attend this afternoon.  So much for a relaxing day at home.  :)

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

Also don't forget to check out with my new weekly photo linky, Wild & Wonderful Wednesday!  There is still time to link up this week or you could plan to play along next week.

Not feeling well today which is also leaving me feeling uninspired.  So I thought I'd try photographing these candy pumpkins I bought for the kids.  Still not sure I'm crazy about this photo, but I'm tired and going to bed now, so it is as good as it gets for today.  :)

While I realize that any cereal that turns your milk blue probably isn't good for you, I couldn't resist buying a box anyway.  Along with a box of Count Chocula.  And if they are still on sale the next time I am at the grocery store, I will probably snag a box of Franken Berry as well.  Will I share with the kids?  Probably not.  :)

Now That's Totally Random

Yeah, sorry about the title :) ... just a post about some random things that are going on ...

My husband is on vacation from work this week.  He plans to finish up some trim work in the living room and dining room.  I'm a little nervous about this because last year when he was on vacation and working on the house, he ended up with a broken finger and stitches in 4 fingers.  I'd like to forbid him from using power tools this time, but I know they are necessary.

We are planning a weekend getaway ... just the two of us.  My sister is coming up to watch the kids for the weekend.  Thanks, Linda!  I'm soooooo looking forward to it!

~~~~~
My camera is still at Nikon being repaired.  Well, technically it is not being repaired because it is still on "Parts Hold" and has been on parts hold for over a week now.  They sent me an email with a link to check the status, so I have been checking in every couple days.  I sure hope those parts get there soon!  I'm glad to have my old camera to use, but I really miss my camera.
~~~~~
I am the PTO Treasurer for my boys' school this year.  I signed up for it because, thanks to Dave Ramsey's teachings, I'm pretty good with money.  So I thought how hard could it be?  Well, I was balancing the checkbook today and already my numbers are off!  A quick email to the former treasurer and we got it straightened out.  Whew!  It was a mistake of not writing a deposit in the check register.  That's a good mistake to have!

~~~~~
I have somewhere to go every evening this week.  I hate that.  :)  Not that they are bad things. I just like time to relax in the evening with the kiddos.
Monday - get together with Bible study girls - done ... and fun!
Tuesday - boys' swim classes
Wednesday - Bible Quizzing
Thursday - Alex's soccer thing - it's not games with teams - just kids his age having fun learning about soccer
Friday - going away with my husband!!!!
~~~~~
I have a giveaway going on right now for Ginny Owens' new CD.  Make sure to check it out.  And I will have more giveaways coming up soon!

~~~~~
I just finished reading Beverly Lewis' book The Shunning.  Loved it!  I read it in 2 days.  :)  I got the second book in the series, The Confession, out of the church's library yesterday.  Haven't had time to start it yet though.
~~~~~
Went running this morning for the first time in a couple weeks.  My right knee has been bothering me so I thought I'd give it a break.  I actually went to the gym last week and did an hour on the elliptical on Wednesday and Friday.  It is easy to stay on that long when you are engrossed in a good book.  :)  Anyway, I'm praying that my knee isn't totally messed up because I'll be really bummed if I have to give up running.  I'm going to try a supplement that is supposed to help with joints.

~~~~~
I stay up too late most nights.  Like tonight for example.  :)
~~~~~
There is a cow farm just up the road from our house.  They must have separated the mamas from the baby cows this weekend because all day and night you can hear the mama cows crying for their babies.  Ugh.  It makes it hard to sleep.  Poor mama cows.

~~~~~
My nephew, Kyle, recently joined the Marines.  The once little 3 pound 15 ounce - two month premature baby - who is now about 6'2" and 180 pounds.  I'm both proud and nervous for him.  I'm sure he'll do well, but there's always that uncertainty of what will happen.  He leaves for basic training on December 5, which also happens to be Alex's birthday.  Good thing we'll be celebrating a few days early.
~~~~~
My desire to scrapbook again is coming back.  This should make my husband happy since he built me this great scrapbook room that I've hardly used for scrapbooking.  Oh it gets used, just not for scrapbooking.  Unless you count storing all my crap scrapbook goodies.  :)  I'm hoping to steal a few minutes here and there and get some layouts done.  I've got soooooo much stuff that I really should use some of it up.  I'd also like to get into digital scrapbooking.  Eventually.

~~~~~
Nicholas loves football so I'm trying to talk him into joining the YMCA's Flag Football league. The season only lasts about 2 months.  At first he said no way.  Then he said he'd think about it.  Then he said yes.  Now he's back to not wanting to.  I'm trying to encourage him to try because if he doesn't at least try, he'll never know if he likes it or not.  And it is FLAG football.  No contact.  No getting hurt (hopefully).
He's so different from Keira and Alex.  They tend to jump right in to things.  He's my cautious one.  I reminded him how he didn't want to take swim classes either and by the 3rd class we couldn't get him out of the pool.  Now he loves to swim.  Football could be the same.
~~~~~
It is amazing how the words "I'm so proud of you" can impact a child.  Nick has a minimum he's supposed to read each week for school.  He groaned and mumbled about it last week.  Then tonight when I got home he told me he had spent the evening reading.  He read a couple books to Alex and then to himself.  It is only Monday and he had almost met his minimum for the week.  I told him how proud I was of him and when he went to bed, he asked if it was okay if he read in his bed for a while.  He increased his reading goal all on his own.  Instead of 60 minutes that his teacher requires, he wants to do 100 minutes.

I just love him.

Week 31 Summary

Week-31-Collage
I sort of feel like I'm running out of steam on my Project 365.  Running out of ideas for photos.  Anyone else feel this way?  Anyway, here's what we have this week ...
31 - Nick found this little tiny toad.
1 - My hibiscus flowers are blooming.
2 - So are my sunflowers.  I mentioned to my husband today that instead of planting corn, etc. in the garden next year, we should just plant a bunch of sunflowers.  They are much prettier, don't you think?  :)
3 - Our 6th Monarch butterfly emerged today ... a female.  That makes 3 males and 3 females so far.  Hoping to find some more caterpillars soon!
4 - We enjoy watching the hummingbirds that frequent our feeder.
5 - Alex checking out the hibiscus.  He said they tickled his nose.  :)
6 - Fire through a hole in the side of our burn barrel.

Not a fabulous photo today ... just some fire through a hole in the side of our burn barrel.  If I had more time, I would have played around more with different settings.
