Hello! Welcome to my little piece of the interwebs. I'm glad you stopped by! My page is currently under construction. A work in progress, shall we say. So please excuse the mess. :)

Please let me know you were here by leaving a comment. That way I can return the visit! And if you'd like to grab my blog button, scroll down to the bottom of the page.

2013 Farm Show

Every year we visit our local farm show.  The kids look forward to it all year.  Seeing the animals, photos, and crafts.  Riding some rides.  Eating a funnel cake (or two) :).  This year Alex and Nick even entered some artwork into the farm show for judging.  And if you saw yesterday's Scavenger Hunt post, you saw that Alex won a second place ribbon and now has three bucks in his pocket!  Nick, who is disappointed that he didn't win, is already planning at least one of his entries for next year.

Here are a few photos of our fun ...

Alex tries to pet as many of the animals as he can.  Even if they are tricky to get to - like this cow.

While Doug, Nick, and I were waiting for Keira and Alex to ride the Fire Ball, this guy made his way over the Farm Show grounds.  I guess he was checking things out from above.  (Textured with Kim Klassen's Isobel).

We actually went twice this year.  Monday evening and Saturday afternoon.  Doug and I got in free on Monday, which left some money left in the budget for some more fun.  And Keira got in free on Saturday since she was going with a friend who had free tickets.  Gotta love free tickets!

Alex talked me into riding something called the Orbiter with him.  They should call it the Vomiter because that's what I felt like doing when riding it.  :)  When we got off, I needed to lay down for a while.  Or at least sit, which I did while the kids rode something else.  I guess I'm getting too old to be riding stuff like that.  Give me a roller coaster over something that spins any day!  :)

Alex was checking out the cars from Erasers.

We even got some BOGO tickets to use there!  I think we will use them this week.

Alex, Chelsea (Keira's friend), and I rode the carousel together.  Well, we tried to ride the carousel.  It went around one time and sort of died.  So we decided that was a good time to look around a little more and head home.  We were all pretty tired by then anyway.

You may be wondering why there are more pictures of Alex than anyone else.  It is because he is the most cooperative one when it comes to pictures.  He often asks me to take his picture while Nick avoids me like the plague.  Keira is hit or miss.  :)

Nick won a goldfish at one of the games.  He had found $12 on the ground right after we got there.  (There was no one near where he found the money - otherwise we would have tried to find the owner).  He used ten of it trying to win a Despicable Me minion (fail!).  Another dollar to win this goldfish, which sadly died today.  And another to buy the light saber in his other hand.

On the way to the car I noticed the sun streaming through the clouds so I had to stop and take a picture.

I entered some photos into the Farm Show and this one won a 3rd place ribbon!  So now I have one of each color hanging on my wall - blue, red, and white.  :)

We had a good time at the Farm Show and look forward to next year!

Wednesday Surprise!

If you've been around for a while, you know that I won a local photo contest back in October.  My winning photo made the front cover of our local visitor's guide.
October 7/Landscape
I was super excited!  I got a check for $50 and they sent me a copy of the visitor's guide in the mail before anyone else could get one.

Well, I was on their website last week and decided to go ahead and enter a couple more photos.  Each month has a theme and while I wasn't sure this really fit the idea of March's Scenic and Serene theme, I uploaded it anyway.
Sunset silhouette
Last month I stepped out onto my porch to photograph the gorgeous sunset we were having that evening to find that the deer had stopped by for a visit.  They spooked a little when I came out, but I stood very still for a few minutes and they settled down.  And I was able to capture this photo.

This morning I got an email saying that I won March's photo contest!  WOOT!  Another 50 bucks and a spot in next year's visitor's guide!  I'm so glad I decided to enter.

Happy Wednesday!

Week 52 Summary

Week-52-Collage
Hello!  And welcome to my last weekly summary of 2011's Project 365!  I've really enjoyed participating in a second year of Project 365.  Well, mostly.  Some days I just didn't feel like picking up my camera, but I did anyway.  And I'm glad I did.  I look forward to putting all my weekly collages into a photo book to see how much my photography has grown over the past two years.

I do plan to continue to take pictures every day in 2012, but I won't be posting a photo a day or making a weekly summary collage like I have been.  Instead I'm planning to participate in Tracey's Be Inspired challenge, and Sarah and Gina's P366 Rewind, and Life with My 3 Boybarians' P52 challenge.  They are each providing weekly prompts to help spark creativity, which I could certainly use a little of right now.   :)  In the meantime, here's how this past week looked like in pictures ...
26 - Baby Christy (even though she is 2 now and is not really a baby anymore, I will probably still refer to her as Baby Christy for a while)  :)
27 - Fun with slow shutter speeds and Christmas tree lights - thanks to Sarah for the cool idea.  Tracey picked this as one of her Top 5 this week!  Thanks, Tracey!

30 - My photo made the front cover of my county's 2012 Visitor's Guide!

Thank you to everyone who visited my blog this year and to everyone who left some comment love!  Your words are always so encouraging!  I wish you all the best in 2012!!!

Happy New Year!!!
