Project 52 - Week 23 - Flying Eagles

Once again things have been just plain busy around here.  Getting ready for VBS.  Editing some recent photo shoots.  And the normal day-to-day stuff.  For some reason my kids think that I need to feed them several times a day and provide them with clean clothes.  :)

However the kids and I took a couple days and just had some fun.  We needed that.  They just finished school and were ready for a break.  A friend of mine told me about a Flying Eagles event happening at our local airport on Saturday, so the kids and I went to check it out.

Apparently all you have to do is register, watch a film about flight safety, and then you can go for a 20-minute plane ride.  At least the kids could.  It was for ages 8-17.  :(  I was bummed because I would love to go for a plane ride.   Alex was bummed too because he really wanted to go, but he's only 7.  Nick wasn't going anywhere near the place.  In fact, when we pulled in, he said he wasn't going to get out of the car.  :)  I told him I wasn't going to make him do anything he didn't want to do, so he came with us and ended up having a fun time playing in one of the hangers.

Keira was excited to ride, so we got her registered and while she was watching the training film, the boys and I were allowed to go check out a plane.

Alex had fun sitting in the plane and playing with the controls.  He's smirking because I am taking his picture from under the wing and he's moving the flap, thinking he's going to bop me on the head.  :)  He didn't.

The plane we got to check out and Keira got to ride in was an old WWII plane.  It was pretty cool.

After we were done at the Flying Eagles event, we went to see The Croods at the cheap theatre.  It was a cute movie.

On Sunday we piled in the car and went to Erie - stayed over and had more fun.  I'll post about that soon.

It was fun to put work aside and just have some fun with the kids.  I plan to do more of that after Vacation Bible School is done.  In the meantime, I need to get back to it!  :)

Project 52 - Week 16 ... My 1,111th post!

Hello!  Happy Monday!  It was a beautiful day today!  I had a wonderful time with my mom.  We visited Phipp's Conservatory.  We haven't done something like that - just the two of us - in a really long time.  I can't wait to process the photos I took and share some of them with you!

But first, allow me to share what we did last week.

We had fun with bubbles.

We got a new family member.  Thanks, Gina!

Alex got a new toy.

And we enjoyed some springtime flowers.

As I was starting this post, I noticed that this is my 1,111th post.  Cool, huh?

Never too old for bubbles

Sunday afternoon Alex stood in the kitchen watching out the window.  When I walked over to see what he was looking at, I saw our neighbor, Kim, and another lady (which turns out was her sister, Linda) blowing bubbles in Kim's front yard.  Not really an unusual sight.  Except for the fact that neither Kim nor Linda have kids.  (At least not that I know of).  And the fact that they are both probably in their 50s.

(On an interesting - or not-so-interesting - side note ... My name is Kim and I have a sister named Linda.  How bizarre is that?)  :)

So I told Alex to go out and see if he could join them.  Reluctantly he did, and within 5 minutes or so was having a blast with them.  Which, of course, sparked Keira and Nick to head out also.  With mom following toting her camera.  :)

Kim quickly shared a bottle of bubbles with my kids and they had so much fun!

Keira, who always like to be in control of the situation, was the bubble blower.  Alex, apparently, the bubble eater.  :)

Nick chased bubbles around for a bit also then asked if he could be the bubble blower.  Which then freed Keira up to chase down bubbles with her baby brother.

I guess you are never too old to play with bubbles.  :)

Playing in the leaves

We've had some gorgeous Indian Summer weather this week.  Which made me realize that we hadn't played in the leaves yet this year.  So despite the fact that I probably have bronchitis and should have gone to the doctor today, Alex and I got busy raking and spent some time playing.  And running.  And jumping.  Well, he did the running and jumping.  I mostly just did the raking.  :)

He did manage to sit still a few times though.

And he decided it would be fun to have me take his picture with his pumpkin.  In the leaves.

And, yes, he changed his shirt so he didn't blend in.  Okay, so perhaps someone suggested he change it.  But still.  He didn't protest.

Week 21 in Pictures

Another fun week!  I got to spend time with some girl friends during Craft Night and got a little of my Project Life book done ... we enjoyed Keira's spring concert ... Nick had his annual checkup and is growing like a weed - not that we needed a doctor to tell us that :) ... we planted more flowers ... we mowed more grass ... and we bought a new slip-n-slide to help the kids keep cool in our August-like weather.


School is almost out and the kids are counting down the days.  Alex has five days left, Keira and Nick have six.  (Alex goes to afternoon Kindergarten and since the last day is only a half day, he doesn't have to go - in case you were wondering.)  We're gearing up for Doug's work schedule to change ... and looking forward to it!  He will be steady daylight with most weekends off!  No more shift work!  Woo hoo!  We're also gearing up for our church's Vacation Bible School, which isn't until the end of June but will be here before we know it!

Keira's Spring concert was this evening.  The orchestra sounded great!  I had Keira pose for me outside after the concert since it was too dark inside to get any good photos.

Doug and Alex bought some yellow roses for me.  I sprinkled water on them and took pictures.  :)

The castle blocks I bought from Groupon finally arrived.  The boys, especially Alex, really enjoy playing with them.

Doug bought cherries because he insists that I wrote them on the grocery list.  I didn't, but I'm glad he bought them because they were really good!

We bought a new bubble machine and had some fun trying it out.  I was surprised at all the colors I was able to find in those bubbles!

A Beautiful Morning with Alex

We've been having some pretty nice weather this week.  Chances of thunderstorms almost every day but they either come during the night or miss us altogether.  So we've been taking advantage and spending our mornings outside when possible.  Monday we went to our church so I could walk/run and Alex could play at the playground.  But instead of playing, he took along a Bible and sat down to "read".

He is learning how to read very simple books, so I'm sure he wasn't really "reading".  But the fact that he picked the Bible over all the other books we own to bring along with him makes me smile.

Once I was done exercising, I joined him at the playground for some fun.

And took lots of pictures.

I have a hard time getting a genuine smile out of him, so I was happy that I got this next photo.

Even if you can see the gum he had in his mouth.  :)


We're still waiting for two of his adult teeth to come in on the top.  They must be lost in there somewhere because he lost the baby teeth months ago!

Now that school is in the home stretch for this year, I feel a sudden urgency to cherish our mornings together.  Because during the summer it won't be just the two of us with Keira and Nick home also.  And in the fall when he starts first grade and will be gone all day ... well, I just don't want to think about that right now.  :)

Week 6 in Pictures

Another busy week has come and gone.  We're making great progress on the Great Kitchen Remodel.  The ceiling tiles are up, the drywall is up, mud applied, and primered.  Hopefully today we will get what needs painted done.  We don't need to paint much since most of it is getting covered by cabinets and backsplash.  Doug is hoping to get the floor put down today also.  Once the floor is down, we can call to bump up the delivery date on the cabinets.  Oh, and we ordered appliances this week also.

This week also brought with it a first for me ... I had to wash the dishes in the bathtub.  I never ever thought I'd have to do that.  :)  But it is hard to use the kitchen sink when it is sitting out on your front porch.  :)  I used two dishpans - one to wash and one to rinse.  Or at least put the clean dishes in until I rinsed them with fresh water.  It is so completely strange when one of your children asks you to stop washing dishes and get out of the bathroom because they need to go.  :)  Once the floor is down, Doug will make a temporary set up so we don't have to be without a kitchen sink.  I'm looking forward to that.  Although what I'm really looking forward to is that new dishwasher we ordered!  :)

Drink up is the theme for My 3 Boybarians Project 52 this week.  I drink mostly water and since water is pretty boring to photograph by itself, I added a strawberry.  And photographed it by the window in order to get some sunbursts.

While out shopping for some more things for the kitchen, Doug and I picked up a bouquet of flowers.  Happy Valentine's Day early, I guess.  :)  It has daisies, tiny pink roses, red carnations, pink lilies that I'm waiting to bloom, babies breath, mums, and some other flower that I have no idea what they are.  I just love fresh-cut flowers!

Now winter is back!  We got several inches of snow and blustery winds!  It was soooo cooooold!  Even so, the kids insisted on sledding for a bit on our neighbor's hill.  Alex cracked me up carrying his sled on his head.   (My submission for Inspire Me's red theme).
