Week 29 in Pictures

If you recall from last week's post, we are back in the hospital again.  Alex had another surgery on Friday to remedy a bowel obstruction caused by adhesions which were a result of the appendectomy.  He's doing much better now ... improving daily.  We hope to get to go home on Friday.  He had his NG tube removed this morning and was allowed to sip some apple juice this afternoon.  We're taking things really slow to make sure we don't take any steps back this time.

He had lots of fun today, playing in two different play rooms, and riding the elevator.  Now he is snuggled up on the couch with his Grammy watching a movie on his DVD player.

Since we are in the hospital again, many of my photos this week are of Alex.

This sweet little lion was given to Alex in the Children's Hospital ER when we, unfortunately, had to return after having just left on Friday.

Our first full day back in the hospital and Alex wasn't really allowed to get out of bed and off the suction for the NG tube, so we had some toys brought to us instead.  Otherwise it would have been an incredibly long, boring day.

We waited all morning for Alex to get called down to have his new PICC line put in.  And, of course, they called us down right after this gentleman came to play drums and bongos with the kids.  We got to spend about 10 minutes with him at least.  And Alex enjoyed playing the bongos while he could.

I think I told you before how Alex is getting terribly spoiled while in the hospital.  Well, today we went to the gift shop so he could pick out a toy and came back with a music set which included this xylophone.  I'm sure our neighbors are just thrilled.  :)

Alex got to play doctor today during a Teddy Bear workshop hosted by the hospital.  If the train engineer gig doesn't work out, he could always become a surgeon.  :)

Second surgery day.  He was pretty tired afterwards so he slept most of the evening.  Doug and Grammy came to be with us and I was able to enjoy a little of the Parent Only night the hospital hosted.  I got a mini massage and had a few refreshments while my little man slept off the anesthesia with his pal, Woody.

While looking for something other than hospital stuff to photograph, I found this bumble bee in the hospital's healing garden.  I wondered why he wasn't moving at all until I noticed the rain drops on him.  He was probably just waiting to dry so he could fly away.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 07.08.12 - Hospital Style

Hello and welcome to another Scavenge Hunt Sunday!  This one is brought to you hospital style.  Alex and I have been here at Children's Hospital since Saturday, June 30, but somehow I managed to get all the prompts this week.  If you are interested in reading about why we are here, check out these posts ...

If not, no biggie ... just keep scrolling for this week's finds.

If you are going to be stuck in the hospital on July 4th, you may as well get the best view in the house for the fireworks.  This was taken from our hospital room window.  We had an awesome view of the fireworks!

I got a chance to play with night photography after being awakened one early morning with IV machines beeping and beeping.  (That actually happens quite frequently. :))  I couldn't get back to sleep and noticed the full moon setting over the city.  So like the crazy photo fanatic that I am, I played around for a while instead of trying to get back to sleep.  This was the view from our 6th story window.
Disclosure:  I couldn't get the moon and the city lights exposed properly together, so I made a composite with two separate photos.

The hospital has artwork everywhere.  Very cool artwork.  Including this Stanley Cup made out of paper and beads.

Doug bought Alex this tiny train with these tiny wheels today at the hospital gift shop.  He's getting a little spoiled with new toys.  But he's been stuck here for eight days and we don't know when we will get to go home, so he should be spoiled.  :)

During our walk today we passed the Lemieux Sibling Center on the first floor, just down from the gift shop.  This is what the wall looks like on the outside.  Very cool.

Be sure to head over to Sarah's for more great Scavenger Hunt finds.  And if you'd like to play along for next Sunday, here's what to look for:

  1. Water
  2. Petal
  3. Fresh
  4. Eight
  5. Calm
Have a great week!  Here's hoping we are home for next week's hunt!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 01.08.12

Hello!  And welcome to the first Scavenger Hunt to the new year!  After a couple weeks off, I'm so glad to have something new to hunt.  :)

This week's items are One color, Laundry, Empty, One dozen, and Soft.  And here are my interpretations ...

{one color}
one-color
Now that winter is upon us, red is one color that is more difficult to find.  Yeah, This one may be a stretch, but look at all the beautiful bokeh.  :)

{laundry}

A load of laundry, folded and ready to be put away.

{empty}
empty
Empty calories, that is.  :)  Something I'm trying to avoid these days.  You have no idea how hard it was for me to photograph these and not eat them.  I mean, after all, they are the Mint M&M's.  And they are fabulous!  :)  Which makes them all the harder to resist.

{one dozen}
one-dozen
We still have candy canes left from Christmas.  They will eventually get eaten.  The kids like to have a candy cane with their hot cocoa.  Just like their mama.  :)

Honey got this soft Snoopy toy for Christmas.  I loved Snoopy as a kid and was excited to find this one.

If you'd like to play along next week, the items to be hunting are:

  1. Stacked Up (Honey Mommy's suggestion)
  2. Winter Wonderland (Honey Mommy's suggestion)
  3. Sweet (Honey Mommy and Sacha's suggestion)
  4. Hole (Sacha's suggestion)
  5. Frozen (Sacha's suggestion)

Be sure to stop over at Ashley's for more great Scavenger Hunt photos!  Have a great week!

Week 35 Summary

Week-35-Collage
We had another fun, busy week.  The kids all returned to school on Wednesday and we are all adjusting to getting up early once again.  Ugh.  You will notice that I filled all 8 spots in my collage this week.  That is because I posted photos of all 3 kids on the 31st and didn't have the heart to leave someone out.  :)

For those of you that are interested in an update on my broken camera ... the current status is that Nikon is waiting for parts to repair it.  It has been on "parts hold" for a few days now, so hopefully they will get them soon and get busy!  I want my camera back!

Anyway, here is our week in pictures ...
28 - Cool mushroom in our neighbor's yard.
29 - Pretty purple flowers (weeds?).  Tracey chose this as one of her Top 5 this week.  Thanks, Tracey!

30 - Dragonfly love.  :)
31 - Back to school.  Keira started 7th grade; Nick - 3rd grade; and Alex - Kindergarten.  They all catch the bus at different times, which is why I didn't get a photo of them all together.
1 - Black-eyed Susans after the rain.
2 - Popcorn and movie night is a weekly tradition in our house on Fridays.
3 - Alex with his new-to-him toy we picked up at a consignment sale today.

Ran a few errands with the kids this morning.  One of our stops was a friend's local consignment sale.  I got some clothes for Alex and each of the kids got to pick a toy.  We snagged this ambulance for $1.50.  He has played with it pretty much non-stop since we got in the car.
