Shades of Autumn ... Finale

I have really enjoyed participating in the Shades of Autumn photo challenge.  In honor of the last week, here are some of my favorite photos from the past seven weeks.

I'm going to miss this challenge.  It has really opened my eyes to the colors and beauty around me this season.  And as a wonderful bonus, there are some incredible prizes up for grabs this week!  :)

Shades of White

The first of all single colors is white ...

We shall set down white for the representative of light,

without which no color can be seen;

green for water;

blue for air;

red for fire;

and black for total darkness.

Shades of Brown

Brown was one of the easier colors to find this fall.

We've got lots of brown all around us now that the trees are almost bare.

I realize this horse is brown all year round, but I just took this photo of him the other day.  :)

(My daughter took this photo of me.  I processed it with The Coffee Shop Blog's Velvet Truffle action.)

My good friend, Laura, started crocheting hats and selling them.  In a short amount of time, she has turned her hobby into a profitable at-home business.  I asked her if she could make me a headband to match my winter coat (I don't do hats :)) and this is what she made.  I love it!  My ears will never be cold again!  Check her out on Facebook at Wix Works.

These brownish weeds used to be goldenrod, I believe.  And, yeah, there's that horse again.  :)

If you have boys, you can probably appreciate that my five-year-old calls this the "poop tree". :)

I've really enjoyed this challenge.  It has made me seek out colors and see things in ways I may not have seen them.  Which is pretty cool.

Shades of Purple

When I saw purple on the list of colors to find for the Shades of Autumn photo challenge, I was concerned that I wouldn't have anything.  Most purple things in Western Pennsylvania withered and faded months ago.  But after keeping my eyes open, I was pleasantly surprised with what I was able to find this fall.

Like these flowers outside our local public library ...

(Photo taken a few weeks ago when my good friend, Laura, and I were on a photo walk downtown.)

Or these withering flowers on my hillside ...

Or these flowers outside a local store that I was surprised to see still hanging on ...

I noticed these flowers at my boys' school today when I stopped in ...

so we went back up this evening to photograph them ...

along with these shrubs that are a gorgeous shade of plum ...

I couldn't decided which view I preferred, so I included them both.  :)

Lastly, my daughter, Keira, has this purple robe that she pulls out when the weather cools off.

Radiant Red

Red has more personal associations than any other color.

Recognized as a stimulant, red is inherently exciting ...

and the amount of red is directly related to the level of energy perceived.

Red draws attention ...

and a keen use of red as an accent can immediately focus attention on a particular element.

The color red increases enthusiasm and encourages action and confidence.



(Yes, that is snow on our gorgeous red autumn leaves!)


Red stimulates energy and can increase blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse rate.
