Scavenger Hunt Sunday 07.15.12

It is Scavenger Hunt Sunday time!  This week's items are Water, Fresh, Petal, Eight, and Calm.
Ramblings and Photos
{water}

While Nick and I were on a walk down to our neighbor's pond, we saw many dragonflies buzzing around the water.  This one was nice enough to sit still for me.

It doesn't get any fresher than carrots straight out of the garden.

{petal}

My pink lilies are blooming!  I love how shiny the petals look.

{eight}
eight
Eight thousand, that is.  Nick came across this huge ant colony, so I broke out the macro filter to get a closer look.

{calm}

Honey was anything but calm when we got home from the hospital on Friday after being there for two weeks.  She almost knocked me over, she was so happy to see me.  I did manage to calm her down eventually so I could take her picture.  I was happy to photograph something other than hospital-related stuff.

Be sure to head over to Ashley's for more great Scavenger Hunt photos!  And if you wish to play along for next week, here are the items to look for:

  1. Wrapped
  2. Time Together
  3. Tell Me a Story
  4. Love or Couple
  5. Duplicated

 Have a great week!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 07.01.12

Time for another Scavenger Hunt.  This ones comes to you from a hospital room.  My youngest son had his appendix removed this afternoon and we are spending some time at our local children's hospital while he gets better.  More details on that coming soon.  Instead, let's get to the hunt.  I need the distraction.  :)

Sarah is hosting the hunt this week since Ashley just had her baby girl.  Congratulations to Ashley!   Be sure to stop by and congratulate her.  And stop over and say hello to Sarah and link up if you haven't already!
Ramblings and Photos

{sunset}

Our church's Vacation Bible School was last week and sometime during the week, the lady in charge asked me if I could do something pretty with our main Bible verse for the week.  We made magnets out of this to send home with the kids.  This sunset photo was taken at the church so I thought it was appropriate to use.  I had a completely different picture in my brain that would be have been great, however I am not in possession of such a photo.  Yet.  :)

{sweet}

Our grapes are probably not sweet yet, but by the end of the summer, if the birds haven't eaten them all, they will be.

{hanging around}
hanging-around
We had our third Monarch butterfly emerge from her chrysalis this week.  So we have released three females so far and still have one more in chrysalis.  The butterflies like to hang around for a while after they emerge to allow their wings to dry.  I like to take advantage of this time and get as many photos as possible of the butterflies while I can.  :)

{funny face}
funny-face
This is the son of a friend of mine.  I hope she doesn't mind me using this photo because this is only one of two funny faces I got this week.  My mind was on VBS, not the hunt.  Anyway, this is C.  He insisted on having me take a silly photo of him after his "serious" one.  I didn't mind at all.  He cracks me up with his funny faces.

{space}
space
I took this photo for a couple reasons.  One - to show the difference between a newly formed chrysalis (left) and one where the butterfly is ready to emerge (right).  And two - because I chuckled at how little space the second caterpillar left between herself and her sister.

So that's it for me.  If you'd like to play along for next week, these are the things to hunt for ...

  1. Patriotic (Paper Heart Camera Theme)
  2. View from Above
  3. Mosaic
  4. Something Tiny
  5. Vibrant

I hope I can get all the prompts as I will be hanging out at the hospital for another five days or so.  I guess as long as the hospital people don't mind me wandering around with my camera, I'll be golden.  :)  Here's hoping we can see the fireworks from our window!

Have a great week!

Photo of the Day: November 28

November 28
ISO 400, f/5.3, 1/60s, 18-105mm lens
Alex lost another tooth on Saturday but we just got around to photographing the "big gap" today.  You can see his front tooth is already starting to grow in (beside the one that he just lost).  I was hoping his other front tooth would fall out so he would have that sweet toothless grin that kids so often get.  It is wiggly so there's still hope.  But if he loses any more teeth, we'll have to puree his food!  :)

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 11.20.11

Time once again for Ashley Sisk's Scavenger Hunt Sunday.  The items we hunted for this week are: Mainly one color, Around the home, Reflection, Writing, and Water.  And here are my interpretations ...

{mainly one color}
mainly-one-color
Our town had its Spirit of Christmas parade yesterday instead of the day after Thanksgiving like it always has been.  I still don't know why it was changed, but I was glad it was yesterday because the weather was great.  None of that has anything to do with this photo, except that this woman, who is dressed in mainly one color, was in the parade.  Their float won Best of Show, I believe.

{around the home}
around-the-home
I saw these guys lined up on a window sill one afternoon while the kids were at school.  So before I put them away where they belong, we had a little photo shoot.  :)

{reflection}

Another photo from yesterday's parade.  In Liza's glasses you can see my reflection and the buildings behind me.  Liza is the daughter of my good friend, Laura, who has also become my parade buddy the last few parades.  She and Keira enjoyed each other's company yesterday.  While I love Liza's sunglasses, it is a shame you can't see how stunning her blue eyes are.
Ordinary Inspirations

{writing}
writing
Yet another from yesterday's parade.  :)  While this is probably more drawing than writing, Alex enjoyed playing with the sidewalk chalk that Laura brought along to entertain the kids until the parade started.  Thanks, Laura!

{water}

Another water drop from my time outside in the rain on Wednesday.  You can see more here if you'd like.

If you'd like to play along next week, the items to hunt for are:

  1. Waiting
  2. Foliage (Kamana's suggestion)
  3. Candid (Kamana's suggestion)
  4. Knife, Fork or Spoon (Kamana's suggestion)
  5. Rules of Thirds (Mikayla's suggestion)

Hope you have a great week!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 11.13.11

Time once again for Scavenger Hunt Sunday!  I had a fun time searching out this week's items, which are: Before & after (processed image), Opposing lines, Custom bokeh, Which pair of shoes should I wear?, and Little features.  And here are my interpretations ...

{before & after ... before}
before-and-after - before

{before & after ... after}

I ran The CoffeeShop Blog's Velvet Truffle action then added a texture from Shadowhouse Creations.

{opposing lines}
opposing-lines
I bought this huge wicker chair at a yard sale this summer with the intentions of freshening it up with a coat or two of paint.  Hasn't happened yet.  :)  Although the way it looks now is starting to grow on me.  Kind of rustic.  Maybe.

{custom bokeh}
custom-bokeh
This was a tricky one for me.  I tried some outdoor shots but couldn't get the bokeh to work right.  So, much to my kids' delight, I broke out the Christmas lights a little early and played.  For this particular bokeh I used a 3-flower punch which is why the shapes are different.  (And I'm finally finding another use for a few of those scrapbooking supplies I have!)  :)

{which pair of shoes should I wear?}
which-pair-of-shoes
The white horse asks the brown horse.  To which the brown horse replies, "Probably the same ones you always wear."  haha!  (Yeah, I know, but I didn't take anything else that worked with this prompt.)  :)

{little features}
little-features
While on the bike trail on Wednesday, Alex took a break from biking to play with some leaves.  His little hands look a little beat up.  The life of my boy.

Thanks for checking out my hunt items!  Next week's items are:

  1. Mainly One Color
  2. Around the Home (Paper Heart Camera prompt)
  3. Reflection (Kamana's suggestion)
  4. Writing (Kamana's suggestion)
  5. Water (Kamana's suggestion)

Have a great week!
