Project 52 - Week 26 - Lightning!

After several weeks of little to no rain, we have been getting more than our fair share this past week or so.  Lots of thunderstorms.  And lightning!  The kids and I are getting a little antsy.  Hoping for nicer weather soon!

Saturday evening I spent some time trying to capture the lightning.  I stood on my porch, poised and ready.  Capturing lightning requires a great deal of time and patience.  And super fast reflexes.  I had many unsuccessful shots.  And then ...

I got it!  It isn't spectacular, but I still got it!

Funny story ... this was actually captured from safely inside my house ... out an upstairs window.  Because just before this, the loudest combination of lightning and thunder happened that scared the stuffins out of me and sent me running for the hills. Or at least inside the house.  :)  That was too close for me!

This morning is just rain.  Lots and lots of rain.  Looks like a good day to read a book.  If only ...  :)

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 07.01.12

Time for another Scavenger Hunt.  This ones comes to you from a hospital room.  My youngest son had his appendix removed this afternoon and we are spending some time at our local children's hospital while he gets better.  More details on that coming soon.  Instead, let's get to the hunt.  I need the distraction.  :)

Sarah is hosting the hunt this week since Ashley just had her baby girl.  Congratulations to Ashley!   Be sure to stop by and congratulate her.  And stop over and say hello to Sarah and link up if you haven't already!
Ramblings and Photos

{sunset}

Our church's Vacation Bible School was last week and sometime during the week, the lady in charge asked me if I could do something pretty with our main Bible verse for the week.  We made magnets out of this to send home with the kids.  This sunset photo was taken at the church so I thought it was appropriate to use.  I had a completely different picture in my brain that would be have been great, however I am not in possession of such a photo.  Yet.  :)

{sweet}

Our grapes are probably not sweet yet, but by the end of the summer, if the birds haven't eaten them all, they will be.

{hanging around}
hanging-around
We had our third Monarch butterfly emerge from her chrysalis this week.  So we have released three females so far and still have one more in chrysalis.  The butterflies like to hang around for a while after they emerge to allow their wings to dry.  I like to take advantage of this time and get as many photos as possible of the butterflies while I can.  :)

{funny face}
funny-face
This is the son of a friend of mine.  I hope she doesn't mind me using this photo because this is only one of two funny faces I got this week.  My mind was on VBS, not the hunt.  Anyway, this is C.  He insisted on having me take a silly photo of him after his "serious" one.  I didn't mind at all.  He cracks me up with his funny faces.

{space}
space
I took this photo for a couple reasons.  One - to show the difference between a newly formed chrysalis (left) and one where the butterfly is ready to emerge (right).  And two - because I chuckled at how little space the second caterpillar left between herself and her sister.

So that's it for me.  If you'd like to play along for next week, these are the things to hunt for ...

  1. Patriotic (Paper Heart Camera Theme)
  2. View from Above
  3. Mosaic
  4. Something Tiny
  5. Vibrant

I hope I can get all the prompts as I will be hanging out at the hospital for another five days or so.  I guess as long as the hospital people don't mind me wandering around with my camera, I'll be golden.  :)  Here's hoping we can see the fireworks from our window!

Have a great week!

Take Heart!

November 13
(Photo of the day - November 13 - ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/60s, 18-105mm lens on Nikon D3100)
This is our verse for the week in our weekly Bible study.  It comes at the very end of the 16th chapter of John when Jesus has just spent a great deal of time teaching his twelve disciples and explaining that He will be leaving them soon.

Sheila Walsh writes in her book, The Shelter of God's Promises:
"What may seem to be discouraging to us, Jesus offers as encouragement.  There is nothing that can happen to you today or tomorrow that hasn't passed through the merciful hands of God.  Even when we suffer for a time, we will always be victorious because of the battle Christ has won.  So take heart and have courage; we are strong women of God because He gives us His strength."

We were never promised as Christians that life would be easy.  But we do have the promise that God has already won the battle and overcome the world.

Sunday Hunt plus Scripture & a Snapshot

I'm back to participating in Ashley's Scavenger Hunt Sunday after taking a few weeks off!  I really enjoy doing the scavenger hunt and am glad to be back.  So let's get right to the photos, shall we?

{stairs}
stairs
The last Saturday in August I took the kids to McConnell's Mill to do some hiking.  The weather was gorgeous and we pretty-much had a great time.  Aside from the times the kids were fighting/bickering/whining.  :)  Keira and Nick both found millipedes while there, which is what they are holding in this photo.  These are the stairs that lead up from the Mill to the parking lot.  And after hiking 3-4 miles of rocky/hilly terrain, the stairs (of which only a small section you can see here) are pretty much torture.  :)

{macro}

I threw on my 10x and 4x macro filters to get this shot of a lonely dandelion I found in my yard.  I had to keep Alex from blowing it away until after the photo shoot.  He wasn't very happy with me.  :)

{clouds}
clouds
During my run on Wednesday I noticed these clouds.  They looked like wispy flowery things (that's a technical term - in case you were wondering) so I snapped a photo.  Prairie Storm texture by Vintage West Photo added.

I love this Bible verse, although it is most difficult to do on a daily basis.  Thankfully one of God's promises is that "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." ~ Philippians 4:13.

Scripture & A Snapshot Week 48

Scripture and a Snapshot - 8/21/11

I've been reading a lot lately in the book of Psalms.  This, among many others, is a verse that I wrote in my journal.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 4.17.11

Time for another Scavenger Hunt.  After a very busy week, I actually managed to participate this week.  Not sure about the next couple weeks though, because we will be away both weekends.  (Yay!)

{time and poem/poetry}
Time&poem
Is it cheating that I combined these?  :)
Time ... This is a pocket watch that my husband owns.  Ironically it doesn't actually tell time anymore, but it is still cool.  And Alex loves it because of the train on the front.

Poem/Poetry ... I don't know if this counts as a poem, but it was very fitting for this photo.  And it is one of my favorite scriptures.

{outside}
outside
When Alex and I were playing outside last week, I noticed these on my maple tree.  I never noticed that my tree did this before.  I love that participating in these challenges (scavenger hunt and project 365) makes me see things I wouldn't normally see.

{zoom (or from the car)}
zoom2
I just took this photo this afternoon.  On my way home, I noticed that the price of gas continues to ZOOM up!  Ugh! (Okay, maybe that's a stretch of an interpretation, but still).  :)

{isolation}
isolation
The isolation that my Lord and Savior Jesus must have felt when even His Father forsook him.  To save a lowly sinner like me.  Brings tears to my eyes ... to know that God loves me enough that He was willing to sacrifice His own Son in order to save me.  And He loves you too!

Looking forward to seeing what you came up with!

Next week's items are:

  1. Reflections
  2. Guess what this is... (Dina's suggestion)
  3. What's Inside(Dina's suggestion)
  4. Playtime (April Photo Hunt prompt)
  5. Lawn & Garden (April Photo Hunt Prompt)
