The movie, The Mighty Macs, is released on DVD today. You may or may not remember that I got to preview the movie prior to it being released to theaters. Well, now I get to review the DVD and give one away to one lucky reader!
As I said in my original review, I LOVED THIS MOVIE! It is based on the true story of Cathy Rush who "just wanted to make a difference and wound up making history."
About the Movie:
It's 1971. Cathy Rush is a woman ahead of her time ... and she's about to embark on an adventure for the ages. A new era is dawning in the country and in collegiate athletics, where a national champion will be crowned for the first time in women's basketball.
In the lead up to this historical season, major universities are preparing their game plans to win that first title. Meanwhile a tiny all-women's Catholic college in Philadelphia has a more modest goal: find a coach before the season begins. Providentially, Cathy Rush is about to find Immaculata College.
Recently married, Cathy is dealing with the aftermath of a truncated playing career. While cultural norms would have her staying at home, she's willing to do the hard work necessary to help her new team reach their goals—or perhaps she's just trying to achieve her unfulfilled dreams through them.
From the beginning, her challenges are as imposing as the big-school teams Immaculata will face on the court. Cathy learns there is no gymnasium on campus, she receives little support from the school's Mother Superior, and the school is in dire financial straits. To top it off, she may not even have enough players to field a team!
While it appears the Macs don't have a prayer, all hope is not lost. With the help of Sister Sunday—a spunky assistant coach—and the support of a booster club of elderly nuns, Coach Rush creates a new game plan that just might bring the team—and the school—together.
Will this pioneer buck cultural norms and spur her rag-tag team to unexpected heights? Or will her hard-driving ways create a wedge between the coach and everyone around her? One thing's for certain: there's never been anyone like Cathy Rush at Immaculata!

The kids and I watched The Mighty Macs for our weekly popcorn and movie night on Friday evening. The movie is a refreshing rarity these days in its G rating. So I knew I would be comfortable having them watch it. They (and I) enjoyed it immensely! They were cheering for the Macs, sitting on the edges of their seats, hoping they would take home the championship. They loved it so much, they asked if we could watch it again on Saturday. This is a great movie for the whole family to enjoy together.
As I said, the movie was released on DVD today so be sure to pick up a copy to watch with your family. And be sure to watch the behind the scenes features to find out some fun tidbits about the making of the movie.

Oooooh! I SO want to see this movie and I'm sure it will be one that I would love to have in my collection as well.
As for most inspiring person? That's a hard one for me but two people come to mind. One, Lisa Bevere. Of course. :) But the other inspirational group I guess you could say is the kids I met while working at a camp for kids with special needs years ago. They were just so amazing and they learned to overcome all kinds of obstacles and yeah... they make you think. :)
I'm so glad I came to your site and saw this! I saw a preview for The Mighty Macs when I got 'The Shunning' from the Redbox and have been dying to see it!
The most inspiring person in my life, at least through this season, is my dad. Not that I haven't always admired my dad, but I think it's just now as I'm getting older and have moved out on my own that I'm finally realizing just how great he is. He did everything possible for me and my two brothers as we grew up. Always encouraged us to try anything that we wanted whether it was sports, piano lessons, or leaving home on our own for summer camp with the church. As an adult, my dad has become my friend. He's a great example to me in my Christian walk as well...especially when it comes to serving others and your church. Beyond all that, he still helps and takes care of his kids even though they have all moved out on their own (which I'm very thankful for because I'm still single and I make him do all the hard labor at my house!) I've typed too much, but it's just so hard to say how much I appreciate him and all he does. I'll stop now, though. :)
