There are people in this world who are natural encouragers. The kind of people you love to be around. Almost always upbeat. Who look on the positive side of everything. Who make you a better person.
And then there are those who bring you down a few notches while you are around them. You may have been going along, having a great day, at a 5 on a scale of 1 to 5. And then you see them, stop to talk because they saw you and you can't get away now. :) And within a few minutes of talking to them, they bring you down to a 3. Not the kind of people you want to spend a lot of time with.
There are a few of those people that come to mind. One is a guy I used to work with. He got let go a few years ago (after I quit, I think) and every time I see him, he tells me his "woe is me" story. I have nicknamed him Mr. Sunshine. I avoid him if at all possible.
Then there is this woman who I don't see often, but when I do, she always has something to complain about. This woman was at the church on Sunday afternoon when Keira and I got back from the emergency room with her broken arm. (She doesn't actually attend our church ... just visits from time to time). I didn't know she was there until I went inside and was walking up the steps to go enjoy the music in the evening. She pulled me aside and told me that she had just spoken to Keira about how horrible an experience they had when her daughter had broken her arm.
I was like WHAT?!?!?! Why would you say that to her? She's already scared because she broke her arm and might have to have surgery. And then you go and tell her about your horrible experience!? What good could possibly come from that?!
UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
I seriously wanted to slap her face.
It is one thing to tell me about it. I'm the mom. I can handle hearing stuff like that. Not that I wanted to. But you just don't do that. You don't tell an 11-year-old girl who just broke her arm and is still sort of in shock over the whole thing something "horrible" that happened to your kid because of her broken arm.
It was probably her way of preparing us, but I still don't see the need to tell Keira. She's just a kid. Granted, she is taller than this woman, but still. A kid.
Thankfully Keira doesn't remember any of the details about what this woman said. She must be like her mom sometimes ... letting things go in one ear and out the other when listening to someone you don't want to be listening to. :)

Seriously, some people have no filter. I actually JUST posted about 2 seconds ago about something similar. Some people just have to be the crazy downer!
People like that drive me nuts. I hope you told her she was out of line.
Oh gosh - that is insane. I would be seriously ticked! I don't know what she was thinking!
I hate it when people do stuff like that.
I'm glad Kiera wasn't listening though (that sounds SO much like me LOL).
Some people! Just AAAARRUGH!!!!
I have actually looked at people in situations like that and said "You REALLY didn't just say that did you?"
I deal with a "woe is me" person a few days a week, it's exhausting.
Okay...seriously? MRS Sunshine needs to be avoided at all costs. There is absolutely no excuse for telling any child a scary story...especially since I'm betting EVERY experience this woman has is bad/scary/unpleasant. Good for Keira...she needs to know that there are people who exaggerate EVERYTHING, just to get attention.
