Not Quite

Alex came into the kitchen this afternoon to ask me something (probably if he could eat something since that seems to be what he's usually asking).  I asked him to come to me so I could tell him a secret.


I bent down and whispered in his ear, "I love you."


His face lit up and he grinned from ear to ear.  Then he thought for a moment and motioned for me to come to him so he could tell me a secret.


I was, of course, expecting him to reciprocate and tell me he loved me.  But instead he whispered in my ear,


"I want to go get some ice cream."


Ah, the mind of a four-year-old.
