Recently I was given the opportunity to review Rebecca St. James' new book, What Is He Thinking? What guys want us to know about dating, love, and marriage.
About "What Is He Thinking??"
In WHAT IS HE THINKING??, Rebecca interviews a range of men from high-profile types to the guys next door, men that every woman can relate to. Although the interviews focus on single guys ages 20-35, Rebecca also includes words of wisdom from older mentors she respects who have been successfully married for years, people like her dad, life coach, and pastor.
The men share their thoughts on topics like how women can respect themselves and the men in their lives, modesty, purity, taking it slow, friendship, letting guys lead, and more. This book gives them the floor to say what they would really like women to know.
The men respond candidly to questions such as:
- What is the most attractive quality to you in a woman?
- Is modesty truly attractive?
- Is neediness a turn-off?
- What do you find beautiful?
- How can we be dependent on God for our identity, not on you?
- How can we help you with boundaries physically?
Rebecca also discusses her own dating life, speaking openly about the single life, her struggle with loneliness, and her hope for the future. She challenges women to see the men in their lives as brothers in Christ and to trust God with their dating lives.

I hesitated reading this book for review, because what could I take away from this book, having been married for almost 15 years? However, I did learn a few things. One quote in particular really stuck out for me ...
Rebecca writes in Chapter 6 Getting Serious - What Are They Thinking ... About Marriage?: "How much better would our relationships be if we were constantly trying to outlove one another, constantly trying to outgive one another, and really seeking to prefer one another above ourselves?"
I love this! I don't think she means this in a competitive way. She means that we consistently put other's needs ahead of our own needs and stop being so selfish. What a difference that would make in our relationships. Not just in our marriage, but in our friendships as well. I realize that is easier said than done, but it is worth a try, right?
There is quite a bit of good information in this book for a single Christian woman looking for the man God has in mind for her. Each chapter covers a different subject like first impressions, flirting, body image, and major turnoffs, connecting spiritually and physically and setting boundaries, along with several other topics.
I think all of my single girl friends need to read this book. In fact, one lucky reader can win her very own copy. Just leave a comment telling me whether you want this book for yourself or for a friend. You don't have to be single to enter the giveaway! And you don't have to mention the friend's name. I know a few friends who I will offer my copy to.
I will randomly choose the winner on Saturday, October 22, and announce it here on my blog.
Thank you and good luck!
