My mother-in-law makes the most awesomest sugar cookies! I know, I know ... I'm not supposed to be eating that kind of stuff. But with Christmas coming, I'm sure Keira will be whipping up a batch, so I thought I'd share the recipe in case you want to try them or bake some and give them away.
Maw's Soft Sugar Cookies
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2/3 c. sour milk *
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
5 c. flour
* To make sour milk, put the 1 tsp. of baking soda in a measuring cup, add milk, and then add 1 Tblsp. white vinegar. Mixture should get foamy. Set aside. (Or you could always let your milk sit out until it gets sour, but I prefer the vinegar method.)
Cream together sugar and butter until well blended. Add eggs, vanilla, and almond extract; mix well.
In a separate bowl combine flour and baking powder.
Alternately add milk mixture and flour mixture to butter/sugar mixture until all ingredients are blended well. (You may have to stop using the electric mixer and finish up by hand).
If making shaped cookies, refrigerate dough for a few hours or overnight. Roll dough, cut out shapes, and bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
If making drop cookies, drop teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
The secret to really soft sugar cookies is to not bake them until the edges get brown. Almost under bake them.
Decorate (or not) and enjoy!
These are seriously the BEST sugar cookies!
Until next time ... God bless!

Ahhhh....I can almost smell them from here! So sweet of you to share the recipe, honey!
They sound yummy!
Kathryn - I think the secret is the almond flavoring. That really makes them stand apart from other sugar cookies. Make them and let me know what you think!
