I just received an email that was forwarded from a friend telling me that if I forward the email to 9 (it actually said 9!) of my friends, Applebee's will be gracious enough to send me a $50 gift certificate. No offense to my friend, but SERIOUSLY???!!! Do people really believe stuff like this?! First of all, Applebee's pays millions of dollars each year in television and radio advertising, which are reliable sources of advertising. Secondly, how are they going to know that I forwarded said email to anyone? And how are they going to know who the heck I am to send me a gift certificate? Pulease!
So I ask, please, if you get an email like this, check it out on http://www.snopes.com/ BEFORE you forward to everyone in your contact list and end up looking like an idiot. :) They have a simple search feature (ex: I typed in "Applebees gift certificate" and was taken directly to the link about this false email). If it sounds too good to be true, most likely it is.
Thanks for letting me vent!
Kimberly

I used to get forwards ALL THE TIME but I think people finally realized that I never send them and therefore stopped sending them to me. But every once in a while there is someone who just can't resist looking like a fool for the chance at a $50 gift card.
