Our Fourth Week ~ 2014

Last week was interesting.  {ahem}

The kids had off Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Tuesday they were off for an in-service day.  Wednesday they had a 2-hour delay because of the frigid temps.  Thursday was finally a normal school day.  But Friday they had another 2-hour delay because of the cold.

(For those of you who don't know what a 2-hour delay is, that is when the kids start school two hours later than normal.  The idea, I guess, is that the roads will be clearer or the temperatures a bit warmer if they start later.)

Doug and I had planned to take the kids snow tubing on Tuesday.  He took a vacation day to do just that.  But as Tuesday approached and we saw that the high for the day was supposed to be in the low teens with wind chills below zero, we decided that wasn't the best idea.  The higher you get in the mountains, the lower the temps.  So we opted to drive down to Cabela's instead.  Being indoors was a much better idea.

Anyway, here are a few photos from last week, including some from inside Cabela's.

On Sunday afternoon Alex was playing with one of his trains and asked me to take pictures of the track that he had built.  I did, but then I snapped a quick one of him also.

I was impressed with the animal exhibits they had there.  They looked so real.  And the background paintings on the walls were great.

Keira asked me to take a picture of the coyote.  We both agreed it is kinda creepy, the way it looks like it is smiling.  :)

Nick traded a bunch of LEGOS with a friend in exchange for a used air soft gun.  He asked me to take his picture with his new toy, and since he doesn't often ask to have his picture taken, I was glad to oblige.  Tough guys wear mittens, ya know.  :)

We were out playing in the abundant snow on Saturday.  Honey, who loves everything about snow, was refusing to look at me as she often does.  I have many profile shots of her.  :)

So there's just a snippet of our week.  Other snippets can be found in Sunday's Scavenger Hunt.  (In case you needed something to do.)  :)

Linking this weekly summary with Tamar.  Go show her some love, won'tcha?

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 01.26.14

Welcome to another Scavenger Hunt Sunday!  It has been a cold and snowy week here in Western Pennsylvania.  I didn't pick up my camera as much as I would have liked.  Because of that, one of my photos this week is from the archives.  Just keepin' it real.  :)

Since the kids had Tuesday off of school, Doug took a vacation day from work and we made a trip to Cabela's.  It was interesting ... all the animal figures on display in the store.  It is kind of like a museum.  But not somewhere I plan to visit regularly.  I wanted a photo of the statues outside the front of the store, but I couldn't get them without getting the letters of the sign also.  And no one wanted to stand in front of them for me because it was cold, windy, and snowing.  They just wanted to get to the car as fast as possible.

It is said that no two snowflakes look alike.  But you can't really notice that unless you inspect them closely.  I did just that on Saturday.  These are nowhere near perfect snowflake photos, but still pretty cool for my first attempts.

The only water around here lately comes in the form of snow or freezing rain.  And while I could have set something up inside, like oil on water or something, I opted to dig into the archives.  This boat was racing on the water in July at the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta.  We didn't stick around to see who won.  It was really hot and sticky that day.  Which sounds really good now considering we are on the verge of another Polar Vortex.  :)

Thank you for stopping by!  Be sure to visit Ashley for more Scavenger Hunt finds!
