Scavenger Hunt Sunday 03.24.13

After a week of feeling pretty nasty due to a lovely cold bug that had a hold of me, I'm finally feeling better.  Still dealing with a cough, but overall I feel much healthier than I did last Sunday.
Anyway, despite not feeling well, I did manage to get all the prompts this week.

We had sweet-n-sour chicken for dinner this week.  If I had been thinking, I would have picked up some chopsticks, just for fun.

Project 52 - Week 8

Happy Monday!  The sun has been shining here all day and feels wonderful.  I love it!  I spent the morning at a friend's house doing some sewing.  My project ended up not going quite like I'd hoped, so I stopped on the way home to pick up some more fabric.  I will try again with better measurements.  Hoping to have that done to share later this week.

Last week wasn't super eventful, mostly just the routine stuff, but it was a good week.  I completed a sewing project that I started almost a year ago!  The kids and I went for a walk on the bike trail on Thursday after school, but we didn't last long because it was COLD!  Saturday morning I attended our local Praise and Coffee while Doug took Alex to soccer.  I really like his new Monday-through-Friday-daylight-weekends-off schedule.  He can still work some long days and even an occasional weekend, but primarily he's off.  It is nice to be able to plan things again!

Anyway, here's a glimpse at what last week looked like around here ...
(can you say "last week looked like" five times fast?)  :)

Alex brought home this snowman artwork from school.  It is made from glue and shaving cream.  I took a picture of it and threw it away because the stuff was flaking off and getting everywhere.  :)

Speaking of Alex, I bought this hat for him from my friend, Laura, who makes custom hats. He loves it!  And the day I brought it home he just happened to be wearing his favorite sweater with a train on it.

I spent some time watching the birds that were visiting my feeder and saw this red-winged blackbird for the first time.

Honey is my shadow all day every day when I am home.  When I go do anything, she follows me.

Keira learned how to do a fishtail braid this week and wanted to practice on me.

Keira also taught me how to do a French braid since I have never quite gotten the hang of it. I think it turned out pretty good for a first try.

Thanks for stopping by!  I look forward to seeing what you were up to last week!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 02.10.13

Hello!  After missing last week's Scavenger Hunt, I'm back this week.  The items we had to find this week are: The small things, Illustration, Valentine, Work of art, and Window beauty.
{the small things}

Alex had a dental program last week at school.  He came home with a goody bag full of hygiene goodness.  That night after his shower he must have spent 10 minutes brushing his teeth with his new toothbrush ... with a mirror in his hand.  It was the cutest thing.  I guess that dentist made an impression on him!

Keira was supposed to bring home a pencil drawing from art class this week, but due to having a substitute, she didn't get it back yet.  Instead she showed me this one that she drew one day while she was bored.

{valentine}

Store bought or home made ... that was the big decision this year.  As you can see, we opted for home made.  These are Alex's valentines for his classmates.  They didn't cost me anything but some time to make as I already had all the supplies on hand.  We hope to finish them up tomorrow or Tuesday.  Alex loves them.

{work of art}

Having fun with a little pop art.  The photo is a cat mask that Keira made in art class a few years ago.  She has it hanging on her wall.

I photographed this little beauty through my office window.  Hey, it works for me!

Thanks for stopping by!  Be sure to head over to Ashley's for more great Scavenger Hunt photos.  And if you want to play along for next week, these are the items to search for ...

  2. Pink or Red

Creating a Masterpiece

Before I get to my post, two things ...

1.  I changed the setting on my blog for comments.  Anonymous comments will no longer be accepted.  Why?  Because I am getting bombarded with SPAM!  I must delete a dozen or more spam comments daily.  Any other Blogger bloggers getting pummeled?  Hopefully this change will still allow you to comment without me having the headache of deleting junk all the time.  Please let me know if there is a problem.

2.  There is still time to enter for a chance to win the Abel's Field DVD.  Go check out my review about it and if it interests you, be sure to leave a comment.  Oh, and I guess you'll need to ignore the statement about anonymous comments being allowed.  :)

When Alex was home from school last Thursday because of strep throat, he asked me if he could paint.  I happened to have a piece of white poster board here, so I dug out the few paints that I had left and let him go to town.  I asked him if he minded that I take some pictures while he worked.  (Some days he yells at me for taking his picture.)  He said it was okay so I sat and watched him paint.

And I rinsed the foam brush out between colors.  :)

And, of course, played a little with my camera.

It was fun watching him take a completely blank "canvas" and create his own little masterpiece.

I will have to buy some more paints and poster board - and a variety of brushes - and let him create more often.  It was very soothing and we now have this beautiful masterpiece to display.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 01.13.13

Welcome back to another Scavenger Hunt!  This week I managed to post on time.  Go me!  :)
The items to find this week were: Outside, Backside, Little things, A cup of ..., and Reflect.

{outside}

It rained a good part of the day on Friday.  But the sun did peek out for a little while in the afternoon, prompting me to go outside and find some rain drops.

{backside}

Knowing that the world does NOT need to see a photo of my backside, I photographed this photo of Nick's artwork.  A pencil drawing of the back side of his hand.  You are welcome.  :)

{little things}

Another hat by Laura from Wix Works.  I had Laura make a Yoda hat for Nick.  Little things like this really make him happy, and he was very happy about this hat.  It goes great with the Yoda slippers Alex got him for Christmas.

We bought an exercise bike this week.  Alex loves the fact that he can see himself in the wheel.  Can you see him?

Scavenger Hunt ... Monday?

So it is a new year and I'm already off to a late start.  Mostly because of laziness.  :)  I didn't have all the photos for the hunt and I didn't feel like picking up my camera.  Partly because I'm not doing a Project 365 this year and it really feels good to not have the pressure of picking up my camera every day.

And my boys just got into a fight and made me lose my train of thought, so I'll just get to the hunt.  :)
{breakfast}
breakfast
Nicholas made this in art class recently.  How convenient is that?  I'm not sure why he chose Corn Pops as his cereal because we never eat them.  Or maybe that IS why he chose them.  :)

{multi-colored}

Not only did Nick get this multi-colored gift from his Aunt Terri on Saturday (we had to celebrate Christmas late with them because they were all sick on Christmas), but Nick is a very colorful boy.  Just bubbling with personality.

My niece, Christi, donning her new monster hat made by my friend, Laura at Wix Works.  Christi starts with the letter "C".  And so does cutie, which she is.  Dirty face and all.  :)

Honey loves to go out and roll around in the snow.  This is how she usually looks when she's done.

Who knows what our future holds?  Our loving heavenly Father does.

So that's it for me.  Better late than never, right?  Hopefully I'll be on time next week with these finds ...

Week 48 in Pictures

One more week down!  Have I mentioned how happy I am to be almost done with my third year of taking a photo a day?  :)  I think it is starting to show in my photos.

Here's what last week looked like ...

{Sunday}
2012-11-25
Alex drew this picture of me and him.  I don't know when he's ever seen me dressed like this, but I must look like a princess to him.  Or Lady Gaga.  :)

{Monday}

Doug put the outside lights up over the weekend so I captured some bokeh from the ones on our snowball bush.

{Tuesday}

Woke up to a dusting of snow today.  It melted pretty quickly though.

{Wednesday}
2012-11-28
I bought a little craft kit on clearance and made one of the poinsettias with Nick's help. {ahem}

{Thursday}

We belong to the coolest credit union.  They sent Alex a birthday card with a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card inside!

{Friday}
2012-11-30
I woke up early enough to see the gorgeous sunrise.

{Saturday}
2012-12-01
I took this for the Scavenger Hunt's "purple" prompt.  I bought some artificial flowers a while back to decorate for fall.  Along with the purple flowers are some burgundy and olive green ones.  They match some fabric that I bought which was supposed to be made into a table runner, but that hasn't happened yet.  Hopefully I'll have that ready for next fall.  :)

Lastly, my favorite photo from November ...

Well, I best get back to my children's ministries prep work.  Hope you have a wonderful week!

I Clicked It Up a Notch: July

July was a tough month for us.  If you've been following along at all, you know Alex and I spent 25 days in Children's Hospital after his appendix ruptured and he had several complications after his surgery.  Being stuck in the hospital and still striving to complete my final Project 365, I had to get quite creative in my photo taking.  I didn't want to have almost a whole month of photos of my poor, sick boy.  And he was pretty tired of having the camera in his face while were there anyway.  :)

I had to decide how I clicked it up a notch in July and this is the photo I chose.

DSC_0004-003

We spent lots of time in the play room at the hospital when Alex felt up to going.  The folks in charge there are very good about coming up with different, creative things for the kids to do.  One day we got to play with Spin Art.  I thought it looked very cool while it was spinning.
