At our recent trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium we had the pleasure of seeing the polar bear in the water. Briefly, but still. AND we had the tunnel all to ourselves since we were doing the zoo backwards. Not that there is a right way or a wrong way to go through the zoo, but most people go through The Water's Edge area near the end. We went there first. And were so glad we did.
The polar bear was playing with a ball in the water.
At one point his huge paw bounced off the glass and startled the kids. I think they thought he was going to come through the glass.
As I said, he was only in the water briefly, but we were still so excited to see him in. Apparently they only spend about 10% of their day in the water.
When he was done, he climbed up to the upper part of his enclosure and started his dancing.
He would back into the tunnel then walk out. Over and over and over again. I need to find out why he does that.
I don't know if he was tasting something or what he was doing but I was excited that I captured him with his tongue out! :)
My next trip to the zoo might be next week ... without the kids ... just me and possibly my husband. I can't wait!

Love that first pic! The polar bears haven't been too exciting the past few times we were there.
Aw! I need to make a trip back to the zoo before it gets too cold. I haven't been there in a couple of years. Polar bears are so cute!
