Happy first day of summer to those of you north of the Equator!
We had a wonderful thing happen here in our little part of the world today.
We had a wonderful thing happen here in our little part of the world today.
Our first Monarch butterfly emerged this morning! So instead of my plans of getting out and running some errands, I sat outside under the shade of our lovely maple tree anxiously awaiting this beauty.
She finally decided to join the world around noon and we enjoyed her company for an hour or so. She particularly liked hanging from my finger. Not so much the boys' fingers, much to their dismay. :) Must have been too wiggly for her.
Once my guilt for not getting anything done today got the better of me, I placed her on a flower to allow her wings to dry completely. We looked out a little while later and she had flown away. I always have mixed emotions when they leave. Sad to see them go but happy that we helped another Monarch join our world. I'm sure we'll see her again soon. And hopefully we can help raise some of her babies.
We currently have two more in chrysalis and one caterpillar that is thinking about making his chrysalis. At least I think that is what he is doing. :)
Here's hoping for many more Monarch butterflies this summer!

Beautiful photos of your new butterfly! I definitely didn't get anything done the morning mine emerged. I just sat there and watched for hours!

It's such a joy to be part of the process and watch them find their wings. Beautiful images, Kimberly.
