When I Grow Up ...

There's a Girl Talk blog hop happening today!

This week Girl Talk wants to know ...

1. What did you want to be when you grew up?
Growing up on a farm, I always wanted to be a veterinarian.  I had a great love for animals and thought it would be great to work with them every day.  Then when I got a little older, I realized that part of that job would involve putting animals to sleep, and I didn't want any part of that.

I remember my brother, David, wanted me to be an architect.  Not sure why, but I wasn't a big fan of math, so that career was pretty much out of the question.  :)

2. Did you go to school/get training to become that?
If not, what did you go to school/get training for?
Nope, neither.  In high school we girls were pretty much pushed/coaxed/cajoled towards secretarial duties, and I was good at those kinds of things, so that's what I went to school for.  Executive Secretary.  With a medical terminology class, just in case I wanted to work in a hospital/doctor's office.

3. Are you currently using your degree/training now?
Only in the sense that I'm a good proofreader and can easily pick out grammatical errors on other people's blog posts.  :)  And I can still type pretty fast.  Not error free though.

I did work in my field for about 14 years though.  The last thirteen of them at the same place.  Then I quit after I had Alex, our third and last child.  I don't plan to return to the secretarial field unless absolutely necessary.

4. If you could do it all again, would you do it the same or would you want to be something different?
I think it would be really cool to be a certified nurse midwife.  I dealt with midwives for all 3 of my pregnancies and loved the care I received.  The downfall would be those middle-of-the-night phone calls to go catch a baby.  :)

So what did you want to be when you grew up?  Head over to Girl Talk to link up and tell us!  (Or leave a comment here or at Girl Talk.)

I think veterinarian is one think that I never even considered being when I grew up. At one time I wanted to be an archeologist and dig up bones... my mom laughed at me haha.
