Playin' in the dirt

We plant a garden every year.  Some years it does really well (like last year) and some years not so great.  So far our cantelope and watermelon haven't sprouted up so Doug is planning to buy more seeds and try again.

Today Doug and Nick went across the road to our local greenhouse to pick up some vegetable plants and some flowers.  I was able to capture some pics of them playing in the dirt.  The boys love to help with stuff like this.

Doug planting brussel sprouts (I think) and Nick digging a hole for a marigold.

Daddy showing Nick how to get the marigolds out of the little planters.  Alex decided to come see what all the fuss was about.

Alex getting in on the action.  This is right up his alley ... he loves to dig in the dirt!

Nicholas taking such care to plant this marigold.

Daddy assigned Alex the task of digging a ditch for the pepper plants.
He did an excellent job!

I'm not a big fan of marigolds (they don't smell very good), but they are kinda pretty.
And I guess they keep bugs away, which is probably why they stink.  :)

Here's hopin' for another bountiful harvest this year!

I can't wait to have a yard where I can attempt a garden. I'm real good at killing things though so I don't know if it would work out.
