Um, I don't think so!

Yesterday when my brother, Dave, came to pick up Jordan, my kids (Nick, I think) asked him why he works everyday.  As adults we just assume people know why we trudge off to work every day.  If you wanna eat, you gotta work.

I don't remember the exact answer Dave gave him, but it was something like that.

And then he proceeds to say, "Well, when you guys are all in school, your mom will go back to work." 

Not maybe. 

Not probably. 

Will.

I looked at him a little shocked and said, "Pffft! I don't think so!  Why would I want to do that?"

He made the assumption that I would have nothing better to do with my days than go work at some mundane part-time job making $7.50 an hour.  (What is the minimum wage these days anyway?)  Or else he's assuming that we are scraping by to make ends meet while I'm home raising my kids.

I can say with a great amount of certainty that I do not plan to go back to work unless I absolutely need to.  God has blessed us with a great income through Doug's work.  We trusted in Him 4 years ago when I quit my job of 13 years to stay home after Alex was born.  I knew at the time that home was where He wanted me to be.  And He has blessed us for being obedient.

The first year or so wasn't easy.  We never had a month when we wondered how we were going to pay the bills.  We didn't often have any extra, but we had all our needs met.  Then Doug left his job of 22 years for his current job.  We almost doubled our income the first year, completely replacing what I had been making at my job.  God is good!

This past year was our best year income-wise yet.  We are truly blessed!  And while he hates working shifts (the only down side of the new job), he has a 2-year plan to get onto steady daylight.

My plan when Alex starts first grade in August 2012 ... unless I absolutely must get a job because we need the money to pay the bills ... will be to spend my days scrapbooking (digital and paper), reading, learning more about photography, and having lunches with my friends ... a lot.  :)   Do I do those things now?  Absolutely!  Just not nearly as much as I would like.

Plus there is an online course I'd like to pursue that could generate an income once completed, which would be good if I plan to do all those things I just mentioned.  :)

I like being home in the morning to see my kids off to school.  And I like being home when they step off that school bus every afternoon.  And I like being home with them during their summer breaks and taking them to the park and the swimming pool and just hanging out in our back yard.  I can't imagine doing anything else right now.

Do they drive me crazy some days?  Most certainly!

Do I plan to return to work once Alex is in school full time?  Um, I don't think so!

But if God has other plans for me, will I follow them?  Absolutely!  Obedience isn't always fun or easy, but I'd hate to miss out on the blessing He has in mind for me by walking my own way.
