Alex came down with strep throat last week. We visited the doctor on Wednesday, which was supposed to be his first day back to school after the long weekend, thanks to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and an inservice day. Did you know that the most-feared instrument at the doctor's office is the cotton swab on that big, long stick? At least it is for Alex. He was not happy about the swabbing. Can't say that I blame him!
He was feeling better on Thursday but I kept him home anyway. He hadn't started his medicine until about 8:00 Wednesday night when Doug got home with his meds. (Long story on why we didn't get them until that late). And I didn't want him to go to school and give his sickness to anyone else. He didn't seem to mind staying home. :) And it was kind of nice having him home all day.
We went for a walk through our neighbor's woods and down to the pond. It was very cold but it felt good to get out and get some fresh air. And, of course, I took my camera along for the walk.
Honey joined us on the walk, naturally. She loves to be out in the snow!
We tried a different path and came across this grassy stuff all covered in snow. The way the sun was hitting it caught my eye.
Once we got down to the pond, Alex really wanted to try walking on the ice. But I was concerned that it wasn't thick enough and he would fall in. So we compromised by allowing him to sit on the "dock".
Even weeds can look pretty all covered with snow.
We have to climb a pretty big hill to get back up to our house and our legs are usually screaming at us by the time we get there. So I stopped near the top to photograph this pine tree. My legs were thanking me. :)
These berries are about the only colorful thing around here these days. But look at those thorns! They hurt!
Once we got back inside and he had his cup of hot cocoa to warm back up, he asked if he could paint. I don't have a lot of colors left since the kids have used most of them up, so he made due with what I had. He painted a very nice picture and didn't even make a big mess.
Later we snuggled on the couch and watched a movie together. I guess it wasn't such a bad sick day after all.

Glad you had such a lovely walk! The pictures are stunning! I am hoping i have a case of the Mondays and not a case of getting sick )-:
Preciosas fotografías, me encantan! Un abrazo grande.
So sorry to hear that he had to stay home but it sounds like it was nice to spend the day together exploring. I would love that. I am SO LOVING the sun & sparkles with the snow. That is one thing here- the sun doesn't come out much this time of year so the sparkles are something I am looking forward to when it does happen.
All these snow pictures look so magical! It definitely makes me wish I lived somewhere that I was able to drive up to the mountains for the weekend.
And letting you know, I'm stopping by from Project 52!
Such lovely photos of your time in snow country! These will be a treasure of a special day you spent with Alex!
Beautiful post. Hope your boy is back on the mend. Love the winter photos that include him best, though you have some nice light in the plant/tree images.
What a wonderful sick day. Glad he was feeling better and up for the walk. Amazing shots. Love the one with him throwing the snow--great capture. I also kind of like it when I have one home sick and they are feeling well enough for me to have time just for them. It's nice every once in awhile.
